Final beckons for under 14s
A cold day but a great victory for on fire Vectis.
On a freezing cold Sunday, a Farnborough side only narrowly beaten earlier in the season, arrived at Ventnor RFC, current home of the under 14s, for a Hampshire Bowl semi final.
A late start in the cold didn't phase the home team, who came out of the blocks with a steely determination and an early score by George finan, converted by Joe Nelson, set the tone for the first half. Two futher tries, the second by Max Henley who surfed the touchline to then cut inside on a beautiful line to cross under the posts (conversion by Nelson), followed by a superb run from Hristo Hristov left the score at the end of the half 19-0.
Farnborough came back at the Vectis boys in the second half and after a decent spell camped in the home teams 22, they finally crossed for an unconverted try. This was followed, 10 minutes later by a further 7 points for Farnborough.
Vectis refound their motivtion from the first half and pressured the Farnborough line with Louis Wyatt finally crossing with a fabulous solo effort in the dying minutes. Vectis Man of the Match, as voted by the opposition, was captain, Callum Buckley. Coach Tom Kearney singled out Louis Wyatt for a superb all round performance.
Final score 24-12.
Vectis march on to meet either Havant or Petersfield in the Bowl final in a few weeks time.
