Plate runners up at Trojans festival
By U10 coach

After beating Gosport & Fareham and US Portsmouth without conceding a point the previous weekend the Vectis U10 Rugby squad were looking forward to a day’s rugby at the Trojans’ Festival.
Trojans have always been strong opposition and the first match against the home team was no different seeing the travelling squad lose 2-1.
The second match saw a tightly fought game against New Milton. The New Milton squad, although proving tough in the past, have always been overpowered by strong Vectis defence but Sunday’s contest saw them provide an equal match for the squad with the score level (1-1) on the final whistle.

Without a solid win it was important that they got one under their belts to get a chance at the silverware. Eastleigh were the unfortunate victims of the squad finally pulling together to show what they can really do, kicking the opposition into touch 6-1, putting Vectis in line for the plate.
The semi final saw surprisingly tough opponents in Basingstoke. However, with some excellent tackling in defence and inspirational ball play from the travelling side the Hampshire team were laid to rest opening the way to the plate final – against New Milton.

The final game of the day saw two very equal squads play a fantastic and entertaining game of rugby – one that unfortunately saw the Vectis U10 lose out on the silverware to be runners up with the score 2-1 to New Milton.
The Vectis club as a whole would like to extend its thanks to the continued support of Wightlink, and to all its sponsors – without their support these events wouldn’t be possible.
The decision for ‘Wightlink Man Of The Match’ was a tough one with excellent performances from Alfie Foster, Matthew Spencer-Brading, Dominic Marsh, and Louis Malkin. However Luke Margham showed that not only could he score tries but also provide opportunities for others to get through and score – helping the whole team.

Max Mason and Ethan French – new to the squad this season – both added value to what is a great little team.
Tries came in from Luke Margham, Dominic Marsh, James Barry, Matthew Spencer-Brading, Jack Daley and Rob Newton.
