Landrover Premiership Cup 2010
Vectis U12’s Tournament Report – 22/11/09
Vectis stayed overnight in Reading in preparation for the London Irish Land Rover Cup, and en masse, and following a good hearty breakfast they travelled to the Redingensians home pitch.
Vectis 1-0 Alton
After a thorough warm up, the team were ready and raring to play their opponents from the previous week. However, Vectis were facing a new look Alton side that included many players that they hadn’t seen in the previous week. This didn’t make a lot of difference to how that game played out; it was conducted mainly in the middle of the pitch, and Vectis still held the upper hand. L Cider scored after a powerful run at the try line with opposing players hanging off of him!
Vectis 1-0 Redingensians
This was one of the most important games of Vectis’ season because this was the team that they faced in the final of this very same tournament last year – where they drew. The game was magnificent to watch and Vectis seemed almost faultless. L Cider scored an early try after several quick rucks created a break in the Ensians’ defence. This put the Ensians under pressure to equalise. They moved the ball quickly from Left to right trying to score but the Vectis defence remained almost impenetrable. Only once did Ensians cross the line, only to have the ball knocked from his hand prior to grounding it by the outstanding F. Boyce. The final whistle laid a ghost to rest for the Vectis lads
Vectis 3-0 Reading
This game showed how strong the Vectis squad is because even though they weren’t on top form, their tackling and defensive play was rock solid and their attacking lines and communication were dramatically improved too. D Rackett, F Boyce, and L Cider each scored a try against Reading, and L Cider completed his hat trick.
So Played 3 won 3, top of the pool, on ward to a semi-final, alas mother nature intervened with what can only be described as weather a kin to a monsoon, when it finally stopped the pitches were completely underwater and sadly unplayable. The pool results stand, and we will have to return to finish the battle for Twickenham another day.
