This year’s successes were marked by the usual midsummer BBQ at Ventnor Rugby Club. There were major successes in virtually all age groups. Colts became Hampshire Division 2 winners, U15s and U14s are Hampshire Division 3 winners, U13s got through to the semis of the Hampshire Cup, U10s were plate winners at the Vectis Festival, U9s got to the final in the Hants Tournament, and the U8s and U7s won the bowl at the Vectis festival. An excellent year for one of the smallest catchments in the South.

This year’s event also marked the changing of some key roles in the club with some of the ‘old guard’ stepping down to be replaced by some new faces. After two solid years as Chair, and too many years to mention as a key member of the club, Chris Marsh is stepping down. The club extends its thanks to him for his time and extensive efforts in helping it become what it is today. Replacing him will be a new face on the committee in the shape of Clive Greedy.

Nigel Malkin will be stepping into the role of Coaching Coordinator replacing another long standing key member of Vectis, Ollie Kearney, again another long-standing member of the committee who has helped the club tirelessly over many years. Ollie - good luck form all of use and thank you for your efforts.

In an attempt to get all age groups involved with the running of the club Ivan Franklin, from the U10s, has stepped forward as Fixtures Secretary. Whilst Festival Coordinator will be retained by Dave Norman (after his cool and successful approach to its management over the last two years) he will be shadowed and helped by U11 volunteers who will take over from him the following season. They will then be shadowed by the year below them the following year to start a rotating responsibility through all age groups.

More fresh faces to the committee are Tesni Challis (taking up the position of Club Secretary) and Sue Montgomery (Child Protection Officer) - welcome aboard!

Old lag Pete Schindler has taken up the role of Treasurer replacing yet another old lag Ian Gregory - again who has been with the club many years. Cheers Ian, it’s been a pleasure - thank you.

The only position left vacant is the Minis Transport Secretary - a volunteer from the U8s or U9s would be most welcome!

Here’s to the new season! Welcome and good luck!
