...were the incredible Rugby Royale team (named after their favourite game Battle Royale)

Vectis under 9s staged their annual Golden Ironman Mini Rugby Tournament yesterday where the incredible Rugby Royale team trio of Isaac H, Freddie H (Capt) and Coben AC emerged as eventual final winners amassing 38 points in 5 minutes over fellow-finalists The Humiliators, who scored 30 points in a very exciting final.

The mini-tournament consisted of 3 exciting opening rounds with each team clambering to score as many points from passing (1 point), tackling (2 points) and scoring tries (3 points).

In the opening round, the Vectis Velociraptors, captained by Billy E, surged to a commanding 42 point lead over the Diamond Blades (34 points), The Humiliators, captained by Theo M (and Alex W), scored 30 points and Rugby Royale trailed with just 26 points. At the round 2 stage the Diamond Blades, captained by Tyler E, overcame the Velociraptors 38-34 in one of the closest games of the competition and the Humiliators humiliated Rugby Royale 27-22. In Round 3 Rugby Royale began to pick-up speed and points overcoming the Velociraptors 50-31 and the Diamond Blades narrowly managed to humiliate The Humiliators - leaving the final rounds points scoreboard and positions as follows:

1. The Vectis Velociraptors : 107 points
2. The Diamond Blades: 100 points
3. Rugby Royale: 98 points
4. The Humiliators: 80 points

The Group 1 semi-final saw the rapidly improving Rugby Royale knock out the top-scoring favourites Vectis Velociraptors 53-32 and a resurgent Humiliators wiping out the Diamond Blades 35-24 in Group 2. On to the final where Rugby Royal's battle tactics delivered an epic 14 tackles for 28 of their 38 final points tally verses the Humiliators clever passing-game notching up an incredible 21 points of their 30 points total. Well done captains Freddie H and Theo M for putting on such a great show. Commiserations to the Velociraptors and Diamond Blades who both led their rounds earlier in the competition and played some great rugby throughout.

Rugby Royale, pictured, scooped the highly-coveted Golden Ironman Trophy (in picture) as well as the Golden Eggs for Easter.

Many thanks to all the parents for their help with the competition too, especially our scorers for the day Jonathan M and Neil H, master controller Freya W, timekeeper Anders AC and fellow referee Ben W.

Happy Easter for next weekend everyone. We'll back training again on April 8th with an away match on April 15th before our own full-scale Vectis Mini Rugby Tournament at Seaclose Park, April 22nd. See you all on the 8th!
