The U14's demonstrated what teamwork is really about, on the road again this time to a spirited and talented farnborough team.
Vectis had a good start with a well worked try by G Finan converted by J Nelson. The good work continued and a second ry soon followed from H. Joliffe, again converted by J Nelson. Vectis continued to attack well, and showed some solid defense against a good Farnborough side. Towards the later part of the first half the lads relaxed a little and Farnborough replied with two tries. Unfortunately the half ended with whistle playing a bigger part in the proceedings than the rugby.
The second half started in the much same way as the first finished again dominated by the intervention of the referee and the game looked as though it may lose its spirit. However, this only appeared to spur the boys on, as they showed us for the first time that they can close out a game defensively. For large parts of the second half Vectis were camped on their own line. However their defense was awesome both holding and driving back wave after wave of Farnborough attack.
The opposition awarded T. Smith with man of the match and the Vectis coaches gave special mention to J. Nelson for his accuracy with the boot, the only scoring difference between the two sides. We look forward to the return fixture in the new year.
The coaches continue to be inspired by levels of ability and teamwork being demonstrated week after week from the team, keep up the good work lads.
