Under 14s victorious on return leg
The vectis team found the necessary mojo to win away from home.
On a misty cold and windy morning, Vectis under 14s, bouyant from their recent semi-finl win, took two ferrys and a short hike to play a return fixture against Gosport; one of only two sides to beat this improving Island side this season. The Gosport side, with great handling and line passing took an early lead and despite excellent scrummaging from Vectis and some great defensive work, Gosport at the break were 12-0 ahead having converted only one of their two tries.
After the half time team talk, a renewed Vectis 15 took to the field and within a few minutes, George Finan
spotted a chink in the defense and touched down under the posts. Ten minutes later Tom Crewes took a similar opportunity followed shortly afterwards by Hristo Hristov
. Despite the awful wind conditions, Joe Nelson
converted all three tries bringing the score to 21-12. Gosport came back strongly and the Vectis defense was pushed to the limit, holding out several assaults on their line. Eventually Gosports tenacity saw them over for the five points, but with a failed conversion on the stroke of full time, Vectis took the game 21-17.
was commended by coach Tom Kearney but the man of the match accolade went to Vice captian, Joe Coghlan
, who fullfilled the leadership role in the captains absence with both his efforts on the pitch and his all round attitude.
The team now look forward to a home Hampshire Bowl final against Petersfield in a fortnights time.
